 Deconstructing Certification
Subject: as a developer, don't do it
Date: 2005-03-18 11:30:58
From: K Vainstein

Doesn't look so good. One interviewer has even suggested that I take the certs off my resume!

Probably don't do it if trying out for startups. Especially a big turn-off when talking to people with MS or PhD degreees.

Yes, one of my certs is IBM's XML Dev.

On personal value with certs, yeah there's some, you do have to learn a fair bit. IBM's XML Dev is maybe not so great - many XML technologies are covered, so there's not as much depth as in a single-topic certification.

Best personal-value cert I've done is Sun's Java Developer.
