 Seeking Equality
Subject: generate-id()

Doesn't generate-id() provide an ID value that can be used to test for equality?

Or does it test for Identity ( === ) as opposed to Equivalence ( == )?

    Identity. As the Rec says, it "returns a string that uniquely identifies the node." (Also note that it says that "An implementation is under no obligation to generate the same identifiers each time a document is transformed," so the ID generated for a particular node can be different each time you run the same stylesheet against it.
